Today, American music producer, songwriter, and member of the Recording Academy, Jen Miller, released her highly anticipated album, “Smoky Mountain Special.”
The ten song folk-pop album takes listeners on an emotional journey, fearlessly exploring the unspoken truths of toxic relationships, family identity, LGBT identity, gun violence, and self-discovery.
In an era saturated with mass-produced music featuring the same Splice loops and samples, Smoky Mountain Special stands out as a raw and authentic work of art. Jen Miller’s soulful vocals and ingenious songwriting captivate audiences, drawing them into her world of vulnerability and resilience.
The album, inspired by folk music’s golden era and infused with contemporary elements, presents a fresh take on a classic genre. Collaborations with Nashville-based artists Adam Mac, Elijah Dax, and Dēdo add layers of depth that cross genres, meshing into a standout contribution to modern music.
Jen, a full-time record producer in Nashville has released music this year with artists including Jenna DeVries, Harper Grae, Keely, Adam Mac, among others.
The entire album was produced by Jen Miller and Peter Eddins in Nashville, Tennessee, with Jen’s only production and writing rules being, “the banjo has to be involved in every song,” and “let’s say the quiet part out loud.” Yet, the album does not sound like what you may think an album with banjo on every song would.
The album’s ten tracks showcase Miller’s versatility as a songwriter and producer, with each song delving into deeply relatable themes. From the introspective “Ceiling” to the poignant “Throw Me In The Lake,” the album invites listeners to connect with the artist on a profound level. The tracklist includes standout songs such as “So So Long” featuring Elijah Dax, a captivating exploration of self-medication and relationship struggles, and “Smoky Mountain Special” featuring Adam Mac — a playful yet profound tale of two Southern families facing judgment for their unique role in providing the town’s vices.
